Hazelnut Espresso Cookies

Lately I’ve been craving soy lattes like it’s going out of style.  But sticking to my calorie allotment on My Fitness Pal has prevented me from indulging.

So clearly the only solution is to substitute one vice for another.  This reasoning led me on a hunt for instant espresso powder.  Not that this journey led me down a path of fewer calories, mind you…

One package of hazelnuts and the usual cookie suspects later, I created a recipe for Hazelnut Espresso Cookies.  If the Cookie Monster had a sophisticated adult cousin, these hazelnut espresso cookies would have been Mr. Sophisticated Cookie Monster’s favorite.

Nostalgic S’more Tarts

I had a craving today… I don’t know if I’ve ever craved this before…

I had a craving for s’mores.

But then I wasn’t satisfied with just the idea of the traditional s’more. And I wasn’t about to build a campfire to make a legit roasted marshmallow for my s’more.

What could I possibly due to make A s’more prettier… a little more special. …as if that’s even possible.

So I thought… how about a s’more tart!? With a marshmallow meringue topping bruleed in the oven?

Baked Almond Tarts with Almond Filling and Fresh Strawberries

This week is all about the amazing strawberries we got.  I think those strawberries may have been magical…  I really think it’s possible.

The moment the chocolate covered strawberries were devoured, I immediately thought about what to do with the rest of the strawberries.   Make more chocolate covered strawberries?  Oh! I know!  An almond tart with almond filling topped with these delicious strawberries…  oh baby!

Patisserie Bechler

If you’re familiar with the Monterey area, I’m sure you’ve heard of Patisserie Bechler.  This place is owned by master pastry chef, Gérard Bechler.  Patisserie Bechler has been open almost 30 years, and they consider themselves the wedding cake experts, I think it goes without saying…  This cakes takes your breath away.  Doesn’t it look like a present you’d unwrap?Patisserie_Bechler_Monterey_California_Amazing_CakesThese ain’t yo mama’s birthday cakes.  I’m not even sure if I’d have the nerve to cut into one of these little lovelies.  Even better, these cakes are delicious.  Patisserie Bechler creates authentic French cakes and pastries.  None of that sugary, lackluster bootleg stuff. Parker-Lusseau in Monterey

We found this cottage filled with pastries and other yummies while trying to find the Massage Envy in Monterey.

Parker-Lusseau has multiple locations around the Monterey area, unfortunately, I only had time to visit one.  This place was charming.  I could have sat outside sipping my delicious soy chai latte for hours.  Doesn’t this picture say…”Stay a while.  You’ll leave a different, more wonderful person…”
